Abstract
1,022,951. Coating apparatus. RALPHS ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. May 17, 1962 [July 31, 1961; Feb. 9, 1962; March 8, 1962], Nos. 2 7694/61, 5084/62 and 8881/62. Heading B2B. An adhesive-applying machine comprises a serrated applying roller 10 and a presser roller 14 yieldable in a radial direction. The periphery of roller 10 is subdivided into zones by spaced circumferential grooves, and in each zone the crests of the serrations extend lengthwise of the roller in lines. The roller 14 comprises a group of rolls 15 separated by washers 24 and mounted on a common spindle 16. Each roll 15 comprises a metal boss 17, rubber or polyurethane disc 19 and metal peripheral ring 18. The rollers 10 and 14 are rotated in opposite directions at the same peripheral speed, and the distance between the rollers 10 and 14 may be varied. The roller 10 receives adhesive from reservoir 35, to which adhesive is pumped by pump 28 from tank 33, and applies it to the article passing through the nip between rollers 10 and 14.
