Abstract
1,022,443. Multi-stage hydraulic pit props. W. E. & F. DOBSON Ltd. May 29, 1962 [June 7, 1961], No. 20486/61. Heading E1E. In a multi-stage hydraulic pit prop comprising an outer cylinder 1, at least one intermediate member 2 and an inner member 3, the member 3 is relieved through an external relief valve (not shown) incorporated in the supply line adapted to be connected to the inlet port 1d whilst the member 3 is relieved through an adjustable, internal relief valve 5. The valve 5 is adapted to operate at a pressure less than that of the pressure differential across the piston head of the member 2 so that the inner member 3 contracts before the member 2. The prop is also provided with a check valve 4 which may be screwed into the side of the member 2, see Fig. 2 of Provisional Drawings (not shown).
