Abstract
1,114,927. Hydraulic pit-props. DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd. 26 Aug., 1965 [10 Sept., 1964], No. 37081/64 Heading E1E. A fluid-pressure-operated telescopic prop assembly includes an outer member 1, in which an intermediate member 6 is slidably, and having a piston 7, with which together with a base 3 it forms a first pressure chamber 15, an inner member 12 slidably mounted in the member 6, having a piston 13 and forming a second :pressure chamber 16 with it and the piston 7, a tube 19 carried by the piston 7, passing through the chamber 16 and slidable in the piston 13 to connect the chamber 15 with the member 11, having inlet means 42, 39, 41, 48 from which for prop extension, fluid can pass into the chamber 15 through the tube 19 and into the chamber 16 through a valve 23, 25, a first relief valve 45 to relieve excess pressure in the chamber 15 and a second valve 29 to do so in the chamber 16. In the member 6 is a non-return valve 22 for fluid to pass from the chamber 15 to the chamber 16, which is opened when the base 3 of the outer member 1 is contacted by the propection 26. The valve 29 at an end of the member 12 communicates with the chamber 15 through a portion 41.
