1,022,070. Spray-drying; catalysts. NAUCHN0 - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUTE MONOMEROV DLIA SINTETICHESKOVO KAUCHUKA. Sept. 12, 1963, No. 35938/63. Heading B1B. Solutions, suspensions or emulsions containing solid catalytic material are dried in a chamber which has a centrifugal atomizing device in the upper part of the chamber below the inlet pipe 3 for supplying the solution, suspension or emulsion while, in the lower part 2 of the chamber, combustible gas is introduced through pipes 11 ; the gas burns in a non- luminous manner on the dried particles of catalyst whereby hot combustion gases are produced which fluidize the dried material. Air for the combustion is introduced through pipe 12. Heat for drying the material in zone 5 is provided by gas-burners 4 which direct flames on panels in the wall of the chamber. Funnels 6 and 7 provide for the even horizontal distribution of the gases moving upwards, the gases passing through the gap 8 between the two funnels. The gases leave the chamber via screen 15 and pipe 15a. The dried catalyst drops from the lower funnel 7 on to conical screen 9, and the oversized particles are guided to exits 9a. The fine particles passing through screen 9 are guided by screen 10 into the lower part 2 of the chamber for fluidization and heat treatment. This part of the chamber is divided by horizontal screens 16. The treated catalyst is finally removed through funnel 17 and pipe 18.
