Abstract

1,020,442. Extruding tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 20, 1962 [July 26, 1961], No. 27022/61. Heading B5A. In a method of extruding ceramic tubes the ceramic material is extruded through a nozzle 15 of the tapered mouthpiece 11 of an extrusion cylinder 10 and simultaneously a tapered pin 13 is fed through the nozzle 15 so that the extruded tube has a tapered bore over at least part of its length. The tapered pin 13 is supported by an operating shaft 14 which passes through the centre of the shaft of the extruder screw 12; the movement of the pin 13 regulates the taper of the extruded tube. The taper of the pin 13 is arranged to be the same as that of the mouthpiece 11. Also the pin 13 is arranged to be moved either inwardly or outwardly through the mouthpiece 11.
