Abstract

1,019,639. Air cushion vehicles. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. June 29, 1964 [July 20, 1963], No. 28806/63. Heading B7K. On an air cushion vehicle rigid structure comprising a platform 1 and fairing 3 is extended by a flexible skirt formed by an outer wall 5 attached at 7 to fairing 3 and an inner wall 6 attached at 8 to platform 1. The walls are joined by diaphragms 14 to form nozzles for a peripheral jet and ties 15 and 10 are provided to retain the nozzle walls in their correct relationship. Air delivered from duct 2 to the nozzles inflates the skirt as shown so that the nozzles are automatically positioned correctly, the profile of the skirt as shown corresponding to that for a vehicle with straight sides. If the sides are curved, the curvature of the walls 5, 6 becomes less.
