Abstract
1,019,595. Scraping carcases. P. AMBILL. Oct. 2, 1962 [Oct. 4, 1961], No. 37424/62. Heading A2V. In an automatic machine for scraping pig carcases, pigs are suspended head downwards by carriages 26 moving along a track 25 and, by means of a half conical end plate 29 are progressively inclined to the vertical and brought into the position shown in Fig. 2 for scraping by vertically moving blades 17. Rotary pinions 27 on the carriages 26 mesh with a stationary rack 28 so that each carcase is turned as it travels along and is scraped on all sides. The pigs pass from a first group A of upwardly moving scrapers to a second group B of downwardly moving scrapers. A further semi-concal plate 30 then allows the pigs to slowly resume a vertical position after scraping. Each blade 17 is secured, e.g. by rivets, to a flexible block supported by and bolted to a leaf spring (Fig. 4, not shown), the bolt connecting the assembly to a cross-bar 13 extending between and secured to chains C passing around toothed pinions 11, 12 on the ends of longitudinal shafts 7, 8 and 9, 10. By means of further pinions 20, 24 and chains, a motor 19 drives the shafts 7, 10; the drive to shaft 10 being through a reversing gear 22. The drive mechanism may be located at one side of the assembly A-B if desired. Protection barriers and casings 31, 32, 33 for the machine and operators are provided.
