Abstract
In cracking or reforming hydrocarbons, coke formation is inhibited by the addition to the feedstock of a minor proportion of an oil-soluble acylated amine obtained by reacting a substituted succinic acid of the formula HOOC-CH2-CHR-COOH or its anhydride in which R is a C50+ aliphatic hydrocarbon radical with at least one-half of an equivalent amount of an alkylene polyamine or N-hydroxalkyl or hydrocardon or cyclic derivative thereof and which may contain ether or thiother linkages; optionally there may be added also the reaction product of one equivalent of an alkylphenol with 0.1-10 equivalents of each of formaldehyde or a formaldehyde-yielding reagent and an amine at 80-250 DEG C. for 0.5-10 hours. The acylated amine is added in amounts of 0.0012-0.04% by weight and the phenol-formaldehyde-amine reaction product in an amount of 0.0003-0.02%.
