Abstract

A unit to supply a finishing or wetting agent is provided in 2:1 twisting apparatus, the unit being mounted on a control tube carried by the stationary bobbin-support and extending above the bobbin, the upper part of the unit being shaped to accord with the path of the yarn where it unwinds from the bobbin and enters the tube. The unit may be a solid block of material urged upwardly by a spring or moved by hand to compensate for wear: alternately, the block may be stationary and wear is offset by arranging for the yarn to depress the tube against the force of a spring. In another form, the unit comprises an absorbent pad fed by wicks from a supply of liquid; the pad and liquid may be contained in a housing of beehive shape with apertures through which liquid passes to the outside of the housing for contact with the yarn and to drop into a lower tray with apertures allowing liquid to pass to the interior of the tube. The pad may also communicate with the interior of the tube which is bent to ensure that the yarn contacts the welted side of the tube. To replenish the liquid, a valve may be provided through which liquid can be pumped, or the upper thread guide may be constructed as a pipe from which liquid drips into a receiver. The 'beehive' member may be mounted on a spring to maintain uniform tension in the yarn.
