Abstract

1,016,914. Vibration dampers. GOTUVERKEN A.B. Nov. 20, 1962 [Jan. 10, 1962], No. 43921/62. Heading F2S. A device for damping longitudinal vibrations on the crank-shaft 2 of an engine comprises a closed, horizontally arranged, cylinder 6 which is fixed to the engine frame 1 and has a piston 8 attached by a journal 9 to the engine crankshaft 2 and which has supply and discharge conduits 11, 12 and 13, 14 respectively for a pressure medium, e.g. the lubricating oil of the engine at a pressure of a few atmospheres, which are so connected to the pressure medium supply that the cylinder is always filled with pressure medium, the clearance between the piston and cylinder being so chosen in relation to the capacity of the conduits that the damping effect is obtained mainly by a pumping of pressure medium from one side of the piston to the other without the pressure at the momentary suction side of the piston on any occasion, thereby coming below the atmospheric pressure. A second piston journal 10 has its bearing in a cylinder cover plate 7, the bearings for the journals 9, 10 being of white metal and being lubricated by the pressure medium. Sealing of the bearings 9, 10 is unnecessary.
