Abstract
1,016,141. Bearings. AMIGO MACHINE CO. April 11, 1962 [June 1, 1961], No. 19765/61. Heading F2A. In a thrust bearing assembly having two or more axially-spaced thrust bearings, thrust is transmitted to or from one corresponding thrust face of each bearing by a single body of fluid acting directly or indirectly on the corresponding thrust faces. In an embodiment, a shaft 10 is mounted in a housing 11, on bearings 12, 13 having seals 14, 15 respectively. The shaft has an integral flange 16 which abuts a thrust bearing 18 and has a thrust ring 21, carried in a peripheral groove thereof, which abuts a thrust bearing 20. Additionally, the thrust bearings 18, 20 are abutted respectively by a flange 23 of an outer sleeve 24 and by an inner sleeve 27. An annular space 28 is formed in the housing 11 and has a wall comprising faces 29, 30 of the outer and inner sleeves 24, 27 respectively. The effective areas of faces 29, 30 are equal so that pressurized fluid, supplied at 33, effects an equal force to each of the thrust bearings 18, 20. Seals 31, 32 are provided to prevent escape of pressurized fluid and springs 25, 34 are positioned in the flange 23 of the outer sleeve 24 and in the inner sleeve 27 respectively.
