A valve for positioning between two flanged pipes comprises a body 1, a closure member 7 and a tubular elastic seat member 2 held in position by flanges 3, by a rib 4, and by two rings 8. The rings 8 are embedded in the elastic material of the seat member sufficiently for their inner edges to be outside the inner surface of the seat member. The rings may be formed with their leading edges nearest the closure member conical and their trailing edges plane, or with plane outer edges and semicircular inner edges, or of a circular cross-section. With rings of the last shape, the outer surfaces are roughened to provide a good grip on the seat member.
