Abstract

1,013,071. Spinning yarns. MONSANTO CO. June 4, 1964 [June 14, 1963; Nov. 27, 1963], No. 23270/64. Headings D1F and D1W. In the production of elastic, high-bulk, cored yarn, a segmented elastomeric filament or yarn 22 e.g. a straight, uncrimped monofilament of polyurethane, is fed from a bobbin 23 rotating at such a speed in relation to the speed of withdrawal as to ensure that the filament etc leaves the package 28 along a path radial thereto. The filament is stretched, with a draft ratio of 1.25-8, in a zone 26 provided by feed and front rolls 24 and 16 rotating at different speeds. All the rolls 16, the stretched filament 22 meets one or more inelastic filaments or yarns 11 e.g. of continuous filaments or staple fibres of rayon, nylon, cotton or wool, drawn from bobbins 12 and stretched if necessary by passage through draw rolls 15 and front rolls 16. The assembled filaments etc. are twisted by a ring-twister so that the filament(s) etc. 11 is/are wound around the core element 22, Fig. 2 (not shown) and the composite yarn is taken up on a package 20. When the core is allowed to re retract, the filament(s) &c. 11 is/areoutwardly from core 22 to form a bulky yarn, Fig. 3 (not shown).
