Abstract

A cooking utensil having non-stick and improved heat-transfer properties, e.g. a frying or baking pan, comprises a metallic body with a cooking surface formed thereon, the cooking surface having an unfilled and bare, porous, metallic coating sprayed-on by a plasma jet, e.g. using a gun of the type described in Specification 1,012,689. The metallic coating may be of Al or Mo, e.g. Al sprayed on to cast Al. A surface to be metal coated may first be roughened by shot or sand blasting or by acid etching and then be degreased with trichloroethylene, butyl acetate or methyl chloroform.
