Abstract

1,011,948. Electric motors. S. A. ARMSTRONG Ltd. Aug. 24, 1964 [March 12, 1964], No. 34481/64. Heading H2A. [Also in Division F1] In order to prevent transmission of noise and vibration generated by the motor of a motor pump unit, a resilient gasket 6 is provided between the motor housing 1 and the pump housing 2, with one side bearing against one face of a partition wall 5 and the other side bearing against one of the housings. Holes 9 in the wall 5, and preferably holes 10 in the gasket 6, are made appreciably larger in diameter than the diameter of tension bolts 8. A ring 18 fixed to the wall 5 is in rubbing contact with a spring-loaded seal 19 fixed to the shaft 12. The motor bearings 13, 14 are cooled by air drawn in through ports 26 by a fan 25 and expelled through ports 27. Heat transmission from the pump, the temperature of which may reach 225‹ F., to the motor is impeded by insulation 7, such as polyurethane.
