Abstract

1,010,795. Yarn winding machines. W. REINERS. June 13, 1962 [June 19,1961], No. 22732/62. Heading D1J An automatic bobbin winding machine having a pair of thread end finding and gripping means for conveying the thread ends of the bobbin and a supply cop respectivey to a knot-tying device, includes means in association with one or each of said finding and gripping means by which, in the event of the corresponding thread end or ends becoming doubled, that portion of the or each doubled thread which does not extend directly to the bobbin or cop is restrained against conveyance to the knot-tying device. In Fig. 4 the suction area 4 is used to find a broken thread end on a package 2. If the arm 4 can only grasp a loop of thread because the thread end has been thrown laterally or has formed a coil W around the package sleeve 2a, a hook shaped part 4b or 4c extends between the two sides lengths F F 2 of the thread loop such that the arm 4 can only convey that side F 2 of the loop that extends directly to the package to the knotting mechanism. In Fig. 5 the thread deflecting means is arranged on the knotting device 6 and is in the form of two wing- like extensions 16, 16a, the extension 16 being illustrated as preventing the thread length F1 from being supplied to the knotting device 6 by the suction arm 4. In Figs 6 and 7 the deflecting members are two stationary hooks 17 and 17a that are so arranged beside the take-up spool 2 than any thread length F 1 leading from a coil W is held away from the knotting device 6. The apparatus includes a further thread seeking arm 5, Fig 1 (not shown), for conveying the thread end from the supply spool to the thread knotter 6. If this thread seeking arm 5 picks up the thread at a point below-thread tensioning device whilst the thread is still in the tensioning device, then a loop of thread will be moved towards the knotting device by the arm 5. To prevent the two arms of the loop from being placed in the knotter-deflecting member enters said loop and then swings to one side to move one arm of the loop to a position where it will not be carried into the knotter.
