Abstract
1,010,366. Shut-off dampers for gas-fired appliances. A. DIERMAYER, andL. KUTZER, May 28, 1963 [May 30, 1962], No. 21346/63. Heading F4W. A temperature sensitive flue shut-off damper for a gas-fired stove or boiler is opened prior to furnace start up by supplementary heating applied to the temperature-sensitive element. A thermostat T, Fig. 1, is closed when the appliance is below a predetermined temperature, applying current through a transformer HTr to hunt a bi-metallic strip F carrying the shut-off flap A, Fig. 2. A switch S 2 in the circuit is arranged to be closed while the flap A is shut, and to open when the damper A is open. A second switch S 1 in series with a gas supply valve MV is arranged to be closed only when the damper A is open. The bi-metallic strip F may be heated directly, or the damper A may be carried by two directly hunted bimetallic strips arranged in series. The switch S 2 is carried by the damper A. The switches S 1 , S 2 may be heat-sensitive.
