Abstract
1,009,086. Television camera construction. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 29, 1961 [Jan. 3, 1961], No. 46647/61. Headings H4F and H4T. A sheath 1 containing a television camera (not illustrated) and associated optical system 3 intended for observing the interiors of combustion chambers of furnaces and the like, is disposed in a double-walled cylindrical housing 11, 13 through which cooling water is circulated from an inlet 47 to an outlet (not visible in the Figure) and wherein there is formed inside the front end 17 of the housing a nozzle constructed of two truncated conical members 15, 29, the nozzle communicating with a duct 27 extending to an air or gas inlet 35. The nozzle provides an air or gas stream of substantially conical form which serves to keep the optical system free from dust and soot particles. An aperture 7, the diameter of which is substantially smaller than optical system 3, serves to protect the system from heat radiation. The housing is slidably mounted in split sleeve 57 integral with a flange secured to the furnace wall in order that the extent to which the camera projects into the furnace may be adjusted.
