Abstract
1,008,631. Electrophotographic materials. RENKER-BELIPA G.m.b.H. Sept. 15, 1961 [Sept. 19, 1960], No. 33261/61. Heading H1K. An electro-photographic material has a support bearing a photo-conductive coating containing one or more thiazole compounds whch conform to the general formula in which Ar denotes an aromatic ring system or a pseudo-aromatic heterocyclic ring system, and X denotes one or more substituents of the same or different types adhering to the ring system and of which many examples are given. The photo-conducting compound may be used without a binder. The layer may contain small amounts of conventional sensitizing dyestuffs Sensitization may also be achieved by adding small quantities of coloured photoconductors. The Specification suggests many natural and synthetic resins or suitable binders, and gives much detail of suitable support materials. When considering the supports it is stated that if a metal foil is used a rectifying barrier layer of copper oxide, cadmium oxide, or aluminium oxide may be provided between the foil and the photo-conductive layer The specific thiazoles mentioned in the Specification are 2 : 5-di-phenyl-thiazole, 2-phenyl-5-ptolyl - thiazole, and 2 : 5 - bis - (4<SP>1</SP> - dimethylamino-phenyl)-thiazole. In the example, the first of these is used with a cyclohexanoneformaldehyde resin to form a photo-conductive layer supported by an aluminium foil. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 964,873.
