Abstract

1,142,509. Photoconductive recording material. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. 26 April, 1967 [20 May, 1966], No. 22631/66. Heading H1K. A photoconductive recording material comprises a photoconductive layer containing a white photoconductor in a binder and a quinoneimine dye. The material preferably contains ZnO, a mixture of ethyl cellulose and copoly vinyl acetate-laurate and a quinone-imine of formula:- wherein R 1 is H or a substituent, R 2 is substituted or unsubstituted p-dialkyl aminophenol and Z represents the atoms necessary to close an aromatic ring. The dark resistivity of the material may be enhanced by adding monobutyl phosphate but other sensitizing dyestuffs may be added. In the specific embodiments the substituents in the quinone-imine are, R 1 as p-methyl phenyl sulphonyl and phenyl carbamoyl substituted by p-Br o-NO 2 , #-CH 3 O, p-CN, m-Cl, o-CH 3 O, #-CO 2 H or p-CH 3 SO 2 , R 2 as pN,N-diethyl aminophenyl or pN,N-diethylamino-o-tolyl, and Z as a fused benzene ring. The material may be coated on a glassine paper support.
