Abstract
1,007,244. Capless electric lamps. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 4, 1964 [April 4, 1963], No. 13426/63. Heading H1F. [Also in Division H2] A capless lamp has a sealed envelope terminated at one end by a pinch seal which provides a base for the lamp, with a vitreous exhaust tube projecting from the pinch seal and supporting a body of vitreous material within the envelope, the base of the exhaust tube communicating with the interior through an opening in the body and each lead-in conductor to the or each filament being supported by the body and extending through the pinch seal to form an electrical terminal adjacent the outer surface. In one form, having two filaments 3, Fig. 1, the lead-in wires 4 are sealed through a glass block 7 supported by the exhaust tube 8, which is sealed through the pinch 2. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the block is formed by the shaped end of a tube coaxial with and overlapping the exhaust tube, the end of the tube being sealed in the pinch. The tube 11, Fig. 5, may, alternatively, have a flared skirt 12, for deflecting internal convection currents away from the pinch when the lamp is used base upwards. The tube may support a stem into which support members 10 for the filament may be sealed. Fuses 13 may be housed in the interior of the tube. In all cases the vitreous body has an orifice 14 communicating with the exhaust tube. Specification 797,441 is referred to.
