Abstract
Paper is treated with a 0.5-3% solution is perchlorethylene or white spirit of a water-proofing composition comprising a silicone oil, a silicone resin containing at least 4,000 units, and an ester of zirconic acid. The silicone oil may contain methyl, ethyl, phenyl, vinyl, or methylvinyl groups. The ratio of organic groups to silicon atoms in the silicone resin may be 1-1.7 to 1. The ester may be tetraiso propyl, tetrabutyl, or tetra 2-ethylhexyl zirconate. The proportion of silicone oil to resin may be 5-50%. The proportion of ester to silicone compounds may be 2-25%. The treated paper may contain 0.1-1 gm of water-proofing composition per sq m. According to the Example, solutions of methyl hydrogenopolysiloxane, dimethylpolysiloxane, and butyl zirconate in white spirit are used.
