Abstract

A composition for treating paper and paper products (see Group VIII) comprises (1) (a) from 0,1 to less than 5% by weight of an alkylhydrogen polysiloxane, and (b) from 99,9 to more than 95% by weight of a polysiloxane of the general formula <FORM:0908988/IV(a)/1> where each R is an alkyl radical and x has a value of from 1,4 to 2,3, and which siloxane may be hydroxylated, and (2) a synthetic organic film-forming resin. The compositions may be used in the form of solvent solutions or aqueous emulsions, and may contain metal carboxylate catalysts. The siloxane is preferably used in amount of 7 to 25 parts (by wt.) per 100 parts of the organic resin. Organic resins specified are acrylic resins, vinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, vinyl chloride, aminoplast and phenolformaldehyde resins. Examples are given.
