1,004,214. Scraped polymerization reactor. A. JOHNSON & CO. (LONDON) Ltd. July 1, 1964 [May 3, 1963], No. 17636/63. Heading B1X. [Also in Divisions A2 and F4] Apparatus for carrying out the polymerization of substances such as methyl methacrylate, comprises a tube 10 through which the substance is passed, one or more pairs of diametrically opposed scraper blades 14 mounted on a rotor 13, and at least three jackets 15, 16, 17 to provide heating, temperature holding, and cooling zones. Jacket 16 may be sealed to provide a heat-insulated holding zone. The rotor 13 may have internal passages terminating in recessed jets for the introduction of gaseous or other additives.
