Abstract

A pair of rollers 18, 19 over which a filament, ribbon or the like is advanced to be treated by liquid from supply means 15 is arranged so that the rollers are inclined to the horizontal and so that one roller 18 is above roller 19 and offset to one side thereof. As shown the top roller is also skew with respect to the bottom roller 19, the skew angle being variable by means of a handle 20. The minimum angle of offset of the upper roller i.e. that measured between the upper ends of the rollers is preferably not less than 30 degrees. The angle of inclination of the rollers to the horizontal is prefer - ably between 15 and 25 degrees, the minimum angle being such that liquid does not fall away from the rollers. The treating liquid may be applied to the upper end of either roller, the top roller being preferred. Lower roller 19 is positively driven such that its upper surface moves towards the upper roller while the upper roller is an idler driven by the wrap of the threads; the upper roller is preferably of smaller diameter than the lower, the minimum diameter being such that liquid is not centrifugally sprayed off. The treating liquid runs down the rollers to a casing 27 whence it runs to a trough 28, it may then be disposed of or recirculated. Thread guides 30, 31 are provided.
