Abstract

1,099,524. Heat recuperators; tubular heat exchange elements. INDUSTRIE-COMPANIE KLEINEWEFERS KONSTRUKTIONS-UND HANDELSGESELLSCHAFT m.b.H. Feb. 5, 1965 [April 22, 1964], No. 5058/65. Heading F4S. Recuperator pipes of oval cross section, preferably of cast iron, are mounted with the longer axis of their cross section lying in the direction of the flow of heating gases 7 and at least the leading pipes in the said direction are provided on their exterior surfaces over the farthest third-part with parallel fins 11, which taper to the pipe over the mid-third portion, being indicated at 12. The interior surfaces of the pipes are provided with fins 13 over the front third part, a series of smaller fins 14 over the mid-third part and is substantially free of fins over the furthest part, with the result that the combined inner and outer fins minimise the temperature gradient throughout the pipe and serves to reduce the thermal stresses. The fins 11 and 13 are parallel to the direction of flow of the heating and heated gases respectively. A restricting body 15 shaped to fit the interior of the tubing is provided in the flow of the fluid to be heated and the pipes are provided at their ends with cast steel collars (18) Fig. 6, (not shown) which carry a device (19) for compensating thermal expansion within the pipe.
