Abstract

1,098,982. Reciprocating pumps and motors. DOWTY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. May 27, 1965 [June 12, 1964], No.24404/64. Heading F1A. To prevent concussion in an axial or radial piston pump or motor comprising a revolving cylinder block 12 engaging a valve plate 22 which is angularly adjustable to vary the output, openings 31 and 32 are provided in the lands between the valve plate kidney ports 45, 46 and communicate with a liquid reservoir 43 formed in the casing or the valve plate, the length of each cylinder port 21 being such that it can momentarily provide overlapping communication between an opening 31, 32 and either of the kidney ports 45, 46 without forming a leakage path between the kidney ports. The reservoir 43 may have resilient walls or a movable, resiliently-loaded wall. A sleeve bearing 26 supporting the drive-shaft 13 and the valve plate 22 has passage means 35, 42 for effecting communication between the valve plate openings and the reservoir in the casing.
