Abstract
1096535 Super-conductors SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AG 11 March 1965 [11 March 1964 1 Sept 1964] 10459/65 Headings H 1 A and A4D A super-conductor wire consists of a number of insulated filaments each extending from one end of the wire to the other, none of the filaments having a diameter which is greater than the depth to which a magnetic field can penetrate into a compact body of the material. In one embodiment, parallel insulated filaments are arranged to form a bundle and each may have a core of poorly conducting material while in another embodiment thin tubes of plastics, glass fibres, or metals of low conductivity may be filled with super-conducting material. Filament diameters of 10<SP>-4</SP> to 10<SP>-5</SP> cms are suggested. The wires may be twisted together to equalize the various voltages induced in them and their ends may be embedded in a block of copper. Wood's alloy or soft or hard solder. Super-conductive materials referred to are niobium-zirconium, niobium-tin, and vanadiumgallium.
