Abstract

The novel 2-hydroxymethylene-17a -methyl-17b - (hydroxy and acetoxy) - 9b ,10a - androsta-4,6-dien-3-ones are prepared by reacting 17a - methyl - 17b - acetoxy - 9b ,10a - androsta-4,6-dien-3-on with an alkyl, e.g. ethyl, formate in presence of sodium methylate folowed by acidification and separation of the products by chromatography.
