Abstract
1,095,172. Liquid level indicators. SANDALL PRECISION CO. Ltd. Jan. 29, 1965 [Feb. 18, 1964], No.6821/64. Heading G1R. A bulk tanker is provided with two measuring tanks of smaller capacity than the tanker, a visual liquid level indicator as described in Specification 1, 095, 171 surmounting the measuring tank and means for adjusting the effective capacity of the measuring tanks, each measuring tank communicating with the tanker via a transfer valve and delivery valves 19, 20. The valves being interlocked so that only one of the valves can be opened at one time. The measuring tanks are selectively connected with the compartments of the tanker through the transfer valve which comprises a disc 5 rotatable into any one of four equally spaced angular positions determined by a collar engageable in cutouts 8 formed in the disc 5. A temperature calibration gauge 34 is provided on the liquid level indicator, and an electrical switch 40 actuated by the float 41 is also responsive to the calibration gauge 34 to stop transference of the liquid to the tank. A capacity adjusting means is provided in the measuring tank, and comprises a bush threaded into the side of the measuring tank which receives a screwed plug for adjustment of the effective capacity. In use, each tank is filled to the required amount and the plug turned until the level of the indicator liquid is aligned with an index line, the plug then being locked in the required position by a rotatable bush.
