Abstract
1,094,851. Fuel assemblies. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Dec. 22, 1964 [Jan. 16, 1964], No. 2082/64. Heading G6C. A grid for locating the rods of a cluster-type fuel element comprises curved components spaced apart by straight components, the curved components defining concyclic points for locating circular cross-section fuel rods; the curved and straight components are integrally formed, e.g. by brazing or welding, whilst they are restrained in a jig. As shown, the grid locates a central fuel rod 20 in an inner ferrule 19, and two concentric rings of fuel rods 21, 22. The grid parts are preferably stainless steel, assembled by nickel alloy brazing. The curved parts can be machined from stock or extruded.
