Abstract

1,094,753. Mats. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Feb. 15, 1965 [March 4, 1964], No. 9054/64. Heading A4S. [Also in Division B5] Moulded car mats are provided with surface strips of a hard abrasion-resistant material e.g. polypropylene, polyethylene or nylon, in places where most wear is experienced by the mat. The strips are positioned in a mould and the backing material e.g. uncured natural or synthetic rubber applied thereover, the whole then being subjected to heat and pressure so that the strips and the backing are securely bonded. In an alternative arrangement the strips are positioned in a vacuum mould, an uncured sheet of the backing material sucked thereon and then bonded thereto by heat. The surface of the strips may be treated with a suitable solvent in order to facilitate easier bonding with the backing material.
