Abstract

1,093,039. Tufting machines; tufted fabrics. JAMES LEES & SONS CO. March 29, 1966, No. 13941/66. Addition to 1,093,040. Headings D1G and D1K. A multi-needle tufting machine comprises at least two transversely-shiftable needle bars and means for varying the heights of the tufts, in order to produce effects such as those shown in Fig. 12. Vertical reciprocating rods 43 are rigid with blocks 46 slidably carrying horizontal needle bars 47, 48. A first rotary calm co-operates with a follower on the lower end of a two-armed lever 115, the upper end of which is connected by a link 121 to a crank on a rock shaft 97. A second rotary cam co-operates with a follower on the lower end of a two-armed lever 125, the upper end of which is connected by a link 130 to a crank 131 on a rock shaft 107. Shafts 97 and 107 are connected by respective links 100 and 105 to needle bars 47 and 48 for reciprocating the latter. The height of the yarn fed to individual needles is varied by conventional control means.
