Abstract

1,067,502. Tufting machines. SINGERCOBBLE Ltd. March 17, 1966 [March 19, 1965], No. 11648/65. Heading D1G. In a tufting machine, some loopers, at least, co-operate with a plurality of needles. As shown, a needle bar 11 carries two rows of needles 14, respective pairs of needles being aligned in the direction B of work feed to co-operate with a single pivoted looper 17. The needles are formed with flat - bottomed notches 25 to allow passage of the upper limb 19 of the looper. Each step of the work in direction B is twice the pitch of the needle rows. The rear needle may be offset away from the looper, and the point of the rear needle may be offset from the axis of said needle away from the looper. The loopers may, alternatively, co-operate with loop-cutting knives, and will then pivot in the reverse direction.
