Abstract
Tocopherol homologues are separated by passing a solution of a tocopherol homologue mixture in methanol or allyl alcohol or a mixture thereof, through a column of a strongly basic anion exchange resin, then eluting with further portions of the solvent to obtain a first fraction containing any a -tocopherol present and a second fraction containing any b -tocopherol and g -tocopherol present, and finally eluting with a solution of an acid (e.g. acetic acid) in the solvent to obtain a fraction containing any d -tocopherol present. Examples are given in which the tocopherol homologues are separated from soybean oil.
