Abstract
1,159,772. Solvent extraction. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. 7 Feb., 1968 [13 March, 1967], No. 6047/68. Heading C5E. A process for the solvent extraction of a hydrocarbon mixture effecting separation of the mixture into a raffinate product of reduced aromaticity and an extract product of increased aromaticity comprises contacting the hydrocarbon mixture with a solvent comprising N- methyl-2-pyrrolidone in the presence of water in an amount of not more than 1À0 volume per cent in an extraction zone forming a raffinate phase comprising said raffinate product with a minor portion of solvent dissolved therein and an extract phase comprising solvent with extract product dissolved therein; separating the raffinate product from the raffinate phase and separating the extract product from the extract phase. The extract product may be separated from the solvent by extraction in a second zone with a second solvent selective for at least one constituent of the extract phase, e.g. water or a liquid hydrocarbon fraction boiling outside the boiling range of the hydrocarbon mixture and first solvent. The raffinate phase may also be separated into its components by extraction in a third zone with water.
