Abstract

[Also in Division E2] A connection between overlapped lengths 20, 30 of metal strap comprises a tandem array of longitudinally spaced lock joints on each of which a section of one strap portion interlocks with a mating section of the other strap portion, each section of each joint having a single elongated staggered slit 22 or 32 defined by lengthwise end regions 25, 26, or 35, 36 and an intermediate lateral jog region 27 or 37 joining the end regions, the jog region 27 or 37 and one end region forming a locking shoulder adapted to enter medially and engage in one-way interlocking relation in an end region of the staggered slit of the mating section. The slits may be placed at graduated spacings along the strap and the jog portions may be arranged at an angle of other than 90 degrees to the centre lines of the straps. In another arrangement, Figs. 6-9 (not shown), each slit is offset laterally from the centre line of the strap, and a laterally offset straight slit is provided opposite to each staggered slit, each such pair of slits defining a central wing tongue portion flanked by marginal strap portions, the tongue portion being arranged, in the array, to form a balanced arrangement with tongues directed towards both edges of the strap.
