Abstract

1,157,084. Roof or wall structure. A. A. C. MARCH. 1 July, 1966 [7 July, 1965], No. 28902/65. Headings E1A and E1K. A roof or wall is formed of elements 168 Fig. 2 in side-by-side interlocked engagement, the complementary engagement features being such that one edge of an unmounted member can be transversely engaged with an already mounted member; only when the other edge of the unmounted member is spaced upwardly or outwardly from the final mounted position, the complementary engagement features comprising respectively a channel, such as 182, Fig. 3, having a channel constricting abutment 177, (the channel opening downwardly in a roof construction) and an entering formation 180 engageable with the abutment (which formation extends upwardly in a roof construction) the entering formation making contact with said channel at a region of contact 178 distinct from said abutment to resist relative lateral compressive displacement between the members, the engagement features also constituting means (such as a throat 182) for inhibiting passage of rainwater through the joint. The elements may be secured by screws engaging a groove having serrations 170. The specification describes several alternative forms of complementary engagement features and cross sections of member. The engagement features on any one member can be identical so that one member would provide an entering formation on each edge and adjacent members a receiving formation on each edge. The joints may include sealing strips. A building may be formed with the walls and roof comprised by such members 193, 195, Fig. 16, connected at the wall to roof junction by brackets 194, the end walls being performed further members 210 Fig. 17 (not shown) similar to the side wall members 195. Members 118, 120 may be overlapped at their ends as in Fig. 9 where they are associated with a shaped jointing piece 124, the upper member having been suitably cut away.
