A screw-type propelling pencil has the slotted slider tube 3 and the tapering front portion 1 made as a unitary structure of moulded synthetic plastics material, such as polythene. Similarly made is the helix 5 with an extension 6 thereof, adapted to be frictionally engaged or coupled to the interior of the pencil barrel 7.
