Abstract
1,091,785. Valves. E. KIEBACK, and P. PETER. Nov. 3, 1964 [Jan. 18, 1964], No. 44750/64. Heading F2V. A four-way valve for water heating systems comprises a cylindrical casing containing a rotary slide and has branches 24, 25, 26, 27 to form respectively an inlet from a boiler, an outlet to a consumer, a return from the consumer, and an outlet back to the boiler. Branch 27 comprises an outer passage connecting with a by-pass passage 28 from branch 24, and an inner conduit 29 which in the position shown connects with branch 26. The rotary slide or plug 30 has stub shafts (31), Figs. 2-4 (not shown), and is provided with open-sided passages 32, 33 parallel to and on opposite sides of a diametral central part 35. The bottom of channel 33 at (35) is semi-circular and conforms to the opening in branches 25, 26, and 29. Channel 32 has semi-circular end portions (34) similar to the part 35 and a central portion (36) of larger radius conforming to the branches 24, 27. Portion 36 embraces an angle of about 90 degrees from the plug axis and portions 34 and 36 are blended by well-rounded transition parts (37). Branch 25 and conduit 29 are of curved nozzle shape as shown at 38, 39, 40, and 41 designed in conjunction with the plug shape to give smooth shock-free flow.
