Abstract
1,091,694. Production and purification of sublimable substances. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Oct. 4, 1965 [Oct. 7, 1964], No. 42098/65. Headings B1B and B1F. A sublimable substance is produced by chemical reaction between a solid and a gas, e.g. beryllium chloride by the action of hydrochloric acid gas on beryllium in flake form, and is purified by sublimation and condensation, the production, sublimation and condensation being carried out in the same tubular chamber 2. Flakes of beryllium are introduced through a throttle device 22 into tank 16 situated in a zone heated by a jacket 4. Gaseous hydrochloric acid is admitted via inlet 6, beryllium chloride forming and being immediately sublimed with condensing taking place on a vibrating U-shaped element 30 through which refrigerant flows. The vibrations cause the product to be detached and it collects in chute 42 and passes from there via duct 44 to a recovery box. The tube may be initially purged by a steam of anhydrous inert gas, e.g. argon, introduced through duct 8. Baffles 48 and 18 may be provided.
