Abstract
1449762 Condensing in drops COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE and SOC PRODUITS CHIMIQUES UGINE KUHLMANN 1 Feb 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 04729/74 Heading B1B Vapour is condensed in drops in a condenser tube by incorporating a fluorinated derivative in the vapour before passing the vapour through the tube, which derivative forms a coating on the tube. In one process the derivative has the formula C n F 2n+1 -(CH 2 ) a -X where a and n each=2-20, and X represents a chemical group which is capable of causing the derivative to adhere to the tube wall. In a modification of said one process at least one but not all of the C atoms in the -(CH 2 ) a chain is substituted with chlorine. The derivative may be incorporated in a continuous or batchwise manner by injecting the derivative into the vapour, by passing the vapour over a solution or emulsion of the derivative or by adding the derivative to the liquid which is to be evaporated to form the vapour. In the shown embodiment liquid is evaporated in electrically heated container 1 and the vapour together with a fluorinated derivative introduced through inlet 11 is passed into condenser 2 where the vapour condenses in drops on tube 6 which forms part of a cold water loop 3. The condensed vapour is discharged through funnel 8.
