Abstract

1,091,538. Removing slag from furnaces. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Sept. 30, 1965 [Oct. 2, 1964], No. 41568/65. Heading F4B. A slag removing device comprises a supporting arm 8 having attached thereto by means of operating shafts 4 two contra-rotatable shovels 3 to be lowered into the slag in an open condition (Fig. 2, not shown), rotated by means of a drive 7 and gear-wheels 6 to a closed position (Fig. 3, not shown) and then raised and rotated about a hollow post 9 to a position for the discharge of the slag. The supporting arm 8 is carried by a platform 11 rotated by a motor 17 and a chain-and-sprocket gearing 14, 15, 16, and is moved vertically by lifting means 10 also disposed on the platform 11. The bearings 5 of the operating shafts 4 are air cooled and the shovels may be made from metal, ceramic material, graphite or any combination thereof.
