Abstract

1,089,651. Water-jet propelled vessels. E.G.K. RAO. Jan. 7, 1966, No. 938/66. Heading B7V. [Also in Division F1] A water-jet propelled marine vessel has two longitudinal propulsion tunnels 32 adjacent the respective sides of the hull, an impeller 30 in each tunnel mounted for rotation about a common horizontal axis and located amidships, deflector plates 31 for controlling the direction of water flow in the tunnels from the impellers and steering vanes situated adjacent the tunnel outlets. In another embodiment the impellers are each rotatable about a vertical axis. An arrangement for preventing liquid surge in the associated propulsion tunnel may be incorporated adjacent each impeller. The vessel may be steered or manoeuvred ahead, astern or sideways.
