Abstract

1,089,506. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 29, 1966 [April 1, 1965], No. 13854/66. Heading H1D. In a method of making an indexing type multicolour luminescent screen in which a metal layer is first deposited over the phosphor areas with the interposition of an organic film, the indexing strips are then formed by wetting the metal layer so as to provide a liquid layer in the form of fine drops or droplets, e.g. by spraying or atomization, and applying a photosensitive binder so that the indexing pattern may be produced photographically. At the final bake-out both the organic film and the photo-sensitive binder are removed. The indexing material may be contained in the photosensitive binder or it may be applied to sticky irradiated areas of the binder, or the indexing material may be applied after non-exposed binder has been removed. The photo-sensitive binder may comprise an aqueous solution of polyvinyl-alcohol with ammonium bichromate sensitizer and, in the case of ultra-violet radiation emitting indexing material, with a suspension of cerium-activated calcium aluminium silicate. The wetting agent applied to the metal layer may be water or a mixture of water and alcohol. The organic film is a solution of one or more methacrylates in toluene. Reference is made to indexing tubes employing secondary-emissive indexing strips.
