Abstract

1,089,008. Inking apparatus; testing ink. ROLAND OFFSETMASCHINENFABRIK FABER & SCHLEICHER A.G. July 12, 1965 [July 15, 1964], No. 29388/65. Heading B6C. The tackiness of the ink used in an offsetlitho machine is measured through the application of a device which has two non-elastic measuring rollers 2, 3 in engagement with a non-elastic ink distributer roller 1 of the inking train. Both measuring rollers are mounted on a bar 5 fixed to the machine, the roller 2 being arranged such that it may move radially to the roller 1 whilst the roller 3 is arranged to move both radially and tangentially. Such radial movement is caused by the thickness of the ink layer on the roller 1 whilst any tangential movement of the roller 3 is effected by the " tackiness " of the ink itself. Through electrical means both the vertical movement of the roller 2 and the tangential movement of the roller 3 are converted into numerical values which can be compared with a " norm " such that adjustments may be made, if necessary, to the consistency of the ink. In a modified device the two measuring rollers are placed one behind the other around the periphery of the roller 1.
