A door catch includes a housing 15 adapted for securement to a door and a striker plate (not shown) adapted for securement to the door frame or vice versa, the housing containing a carrier 29 for a catch element 28 which protrudes from an aperture 13a in one end 13 of the housing so as to be engageable with the striker plate when fitted to the door and frame, the catch element being urged upwardly of the housing by resilient means 25, the housing having an opening 16 in a side wall 11 through which the carrier, before or after assembly of the catch element therewith, is capable of being passed into the interior of the housing; a closure member 19 being provided for this opening and means for retaining the closure member in assembled position in the opening in the housing, such means comprising at least one formation on the housing and at least one interfitting formation on the closure member, either the closure member or the housing or both of these components being subject to some elastic deformation when assembly takes place and thereafter reverting partly or wholly to an unstressed condition in which they serve to retain the closure member in position. In the construction shown the housing has two formations each in the form of a groove 18 of V shape in cross section and the two lateral edges of the closure member each have a formation in the form of a rib 20 of V shape in cross section which engages a respective groove 18 The closure member has a transversely concave face 21 and a plane face the concave face 21 enabling the closure member to be deformed about is longitudinal centre line for assembly with the housing but in an alternative construction the housing: is elastically deformable and the closure member rigid The closure member has lugs 23 which co-operate with lugs 24 of the housing to define a recess in which the innermost end of the resilient means 25 is engaged the resilient means urging the carrier outwardly. In the construction shown the carrier is deformable to enable a roller 28 to be engaged with it but the carrier could be rigid and the roller assembled with it by means of a spindle which is screwed into the lug supporting the roller. It is also stated that the carrier can carry a ball or a bullet shaped member instead of the roller.
