Abstract

1,087,922. Sorting food products. K. M. ALLEN. Sept. 11, 1964 [Sept. 11, 1963], No. 26638/67. Divided out of 1,087,921. Heading B2H. In a machine for sorting flat and warped disc-like corn chips 190, 192, the chips are fed via chutes 210 to one side of a row of discs 202 rotatable in the same direction so that the flat chips 190 drop between the discs whereas the warped chips 192 are caught in the spaces between the discs and are carried over by the latter to the other side of the row of discs where they are discharged on to a chute 209 by means of abutments on the chute which are interleaved with the discs so as to engage and remove the chips 192 from the spaces between the discs. The chutes 210 have a V- shaped cross-section and convergent sides so as to feed the chip edgewise between adjacent discs. The discs are spaced apart by sleeves 204 on a shaft 206. The sleeves 204 and the lower ends of the chutes 210 are spaced horizontally apart sufficiently to allow the flat chips 190 to drop between them.
