Abstract
1,087,469. Wall slabs; shoes for joists. BUILDING RESEARCH (HOLDING) Ltd. Dec. 8, 1964 [Aug. 17, 1964], No. 33468/64. Headings E1B and E1W. A building unit forming permanent shuttering for poured-concrete walls comprises two parallel panels 10, 11 spaced by elongated staples 12, 15 of circular, rectangular or other section embedded in the edges. Each panel may comprise fibrous material and a hydraulic binder, and the completed wall may be rendered internally and externally. During manufacture of a unit the two panels are clamped in respective rigidly-connected frames, Figs. 17A, B, C, (not shown), while the staples are inserted, the frames being rotatable about a common horizontal axis and being locked at 90-degree intervals by a pedal-released catch in order to bring the panel edges into convenient positions for stapling. Further staples may be used to connect units abutting side-by-side or at right angles Figs. 10A, 10B (not shown). Reinforcement may be embedded in the poured concrete to connect the wall to a concrete base floor or roof, Figs. 8, 9b, 15b (not shown), or to form a lintel for a window or door, Figs. 11, 12, 13 (not shown). The wall itself may be reinforced by caged steel rods or a steel column, Figs. 16A, 16B (not shown). The ends of floor joists may be supported in steel - shoes. Figs. 9A, 14A (not shown) secured to the wall face by embedded tongues. Where the floor joists are steel their ends may be embedded directly in the wall. A steel angle bearer may be secured to the wall face by welded-on tongues embedded in the wall.
