In a food heating apparatus, in which food is carried on a revolving shelf 4 between fixed heating elements 10, 13, the upper radiant heaters 10 are arranged at circumferentially spaced intervals over a hot plate portion 5. The shelf 4 may be provided with an annular grid 6 and an additional gridded revolving shelf 14 is arranged, beneath a radiant heater 15, for toasting slices of bread. A metal splash tray 17 is arranged beneath the shelves. The speed at which shaft 3 is rotated, by motor and reduction gear 9, is adjusted so that a toasting or grilling operation is completed in each revolution of shelf 4.
